How many of you know the grape Souzão? Bending Branch Winery in Comfort was the first to plant Souzão in Texas, a grape that hails from Portugal and is used to make Port and still wines. Souzão, one of the few teinturier grapes with red-black pulp, produces wines with deep, dark, inky color and great structure.
The Bending Branch 2020 Estate Souzão was just released and is sure to be a fall favorite! It is a big red with notes of dark blackberry, blueberry compote, black tea and black walnut. This wine will pair well with raspberry-chipotle glazed meatballs, wine-braised beef short ribs and back-wrapped quail skewers.
Available online and at the winery. $75
