Spring is here and that means new releases of fabulous Texas rosé wines to enjoy on the patio, by the pool or on the deck with a beautiful sunset. Texas has a wide diversity of grapes that are used to make rosé wines and these four from the Texas Fine Wine group are no exception!
Head out to the wineries to pick up a bottle (or several) for your spring and summer get togethers.
Bending Branch Winery 2023 Branch Tannat Frizzante Rosé ($25)
Tannat is a big, bold red grape historically from South West France, known for its striking tannins and black and red fruit notes.
The first sparkling Tannat in Texas, the Branch Tannat Frizzante is a fan favorite – with notes of strawberry, white peach, apple and pear. It is fruity, fanciful and fun!
Duchman Family Winery Grape Growers BBQ Rosé ($26)
Part of Duchman’s new BBQ wine line-up, this rosé is made from the Italian grapes Sangiovese and Dolcetto. Sangiovese hails from central Italy, most notably in the Chianti region of Tuscany, while Dolcetto (whose name means ‘little sweet one’) is most often found in Piedmont.
This refreshing rosé has notes of strawberry, lemon citrus and flowers, with a hint of minerality.
Pedernales Cellars 2024 Aletheia Rosé ($36)
Pedernales has introduced its first wine made with organic grapes – this stunning rosé made from equal parts Grenache and Mourvèdre called Aletheia. The grapes come from Desert Willow Vineyards in the Texas High Plains, one of Texas’ only certified organic vineyards.
The Grenache offers vibrant red fruit and freshness while the Mourvèdre lends depth, delicate earthiness and subtle minerality. The Aletheia rosé has notes of fresh raspberries, ripe strawberries and watermelon, with delicate floral notes.
Fun note: Aletheia is a philosophical term referencing “truth” as well as the Greek goddess of veritas. Pedernales Cellars’ goal with this wine is to highlight its commitment to truth in sourcing, a minimalist winemaking approach, and also celebrate being a majority female-owned business.
Spicewood Vineyards 2023 Estate Rosé ($30)
As one might expect from a winery specializing in Tempranillo, the Spicewood Estate Rosé is made primarily from Tempranillo with small amounts of Carignan and Graciano – popular grapes from Spain’s Rioja wine region.
Spicewood’s estate rosé has notes of raspberries, honeydew melon and rose petals.
Pair these rosé wines with Mom on Mother’s Day! Of course, they will also pair with fresh seafood, summer salads, goat cheese and light pasta dishes.
