Known for its Rhone varieties, Pedernales Cellars makes a GSM-style blend called Mélange, because not every vintage produces enough Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre so they might include another grape variety. However, 2020 is the real deal made of 34% Grenache, 33% Syrah and 33% Mourvèdre from the Warren Vineyards and Lahey Vineyards in the Texas High Plains.
This full-bodied red has notes of black cherries, leather, dark chocolate, smoke and hints of licorice. It recently won Gold at the 2024 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.
