CENTRAL TEXAS, March 23, 2017 – The TEXSOM International Wine Awards recognized 20 wines from Texas Fine Wine wineries, including Brennan Vineyards 2015 Roussanne as Judges’ Selection – Texas White and Brennan Vineyards 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon for Judges’ Selection – Texas Red, both winning a gold medal. The competition also awarded a gold medal to Pedernales Cellars’ 2015 Reserve Viognier.
“We are honored to have won top Texas white and top Texas red from this prestigious group of judges,” says Todd Webster, Brennan Vineyards winemaker. “Roussanne is an up-and-coming and very promising white grape for Texas, while Cabernet continues to surprise and delight in a state where Mediterranean varieties show tremendous promise.”
Brennan Vineyards won a silver award for its 2014 Super Nero (Nero d’Avola). Duchman Family Winery won silver for its 2015 Trebbiano, 2015 Vermentino, and Progression red blend. Silver medals also were awarded to Pedernales 2015 Tempranillo and Spicewood Vineyards 2015 Tempranillo Rosé and 2014 Texas High Plains Tempranillo.
Bronze medals were awarded to Bending Branch Winery for its 2014 Tempranillo; Brennan Vineyards for its 2015 Viognier Reserve, 2015 Viognier, 2015 Dry Rosé, and 2014 Tempranillo; Duchman Family Winery for its 2015 Viognier, 2013 Aglianico, and 2013 Montepulciano; Pedernales Cellars for its 2014 Tempranillo Reserve; and Spicewood Vineyards for its 2015 Estate Sauvignon Blanc.
The TEXSOM International Wine Awards received more than 3,500 entries from 29 countries and 19 different states which were scored by 71 international judges.
